Victoria is home to some of the nation’s most exquisite properties, from heritage-listed houses more than 100 years old, to new builds brimming with luxury and design from some of the state’s top architects.
The Herald Sun’s real estate team has selected the top 50 homes across the state.
Tree-lined streets in Melbourne’s elite suburbs showcase some of the best mansions Australia has to offer, while sustainable, inner-city abodes were among the winners at this year’s Victorian Architecture Awards.
A straw-bale yurt on a Dandenong Ranges property crowned No. 2 in Airbnb’s most wish-listed stays is among the list, as is an enchanting treehouse made from a “treasure trove” of recycled materials.
But there’s also a raft of quirky homes in unsung regional and coastal townships that made the cut, as well as some of the city’s oldest builds still standing strong today.
You might even spot a famous face or two, as some of the state’s best properties have inevitably been home to a swath of notable owners over the years.
An iconic Fairhaven beach house known for featuring Max Rockatansky’s hide-out in the original Mad Max movie earned a place, after it was sold last year by Shark Tank and Survivor star Janine Allis.
Also on the list is a luxury Frankston South mansion located on a private beach, which smashed the suburb’s house price record last month.
It’s safe to say that each week our team of property experts comes across dozens of spectacular homes, which made it difficult to narrow it down to 50.
But after much debate, discussion, and cutthroat ranking, the top 50 list is finalized.
Of course, it’s a subjective topic, and you may agree or completely disagree with our rankings – which is why we invite you to the discussion and vote below to have your say.
