Twist in dramatic siege as alleged home invaders turn on each other

Police have arrested two men following a siege, during which a main street in Melbourne’s southeast was shut down for hours
The two men refused to come out of a property in Mornington after police attempted to arrest them at around 10am following an alleged home invasion and serious assault overnight, police said.
Police believe one of the men took the other hostage, threatening him with a knife and refused to let him leave the property.
The street was then shut down as a hostage team negotiated with the men. Pedestrians and motorists were barred from entering the area during the nearly five-hour-long siege.
Police arrested the pair at about 2:45pm, after one of the men emerged from the units.
“Both men will assist police with their inquiries in relation to an alleged home invasion and serious assault which occurred in Mornington overnight,” Victoria Police said in a statement.
