RAMADAN NIGHTS LAKEMBA RETURNS IN FULL SWING

A million people are expected to turn out to one of Sydney’s biggest cultural celebrations – Ramadan Nights Lakemba.
Dozens of food vendors and traditional clothing stalls will turn Haldon Street into a global bazaar every evening from Saturday 2 April to Sunday 1 May, from dusk till late.
Local, national and international visitors will join in the festivities as Muslims celebrate the holy month of Ramadan and break their fast.
Canterbury-Bankstown Mayor Khal Asfour said Ramadan Nights Lakemba has grown over the years into one of the state’s most significant culturally diverse festivals, attracting up to 30,000 people each night.
“From very humble beginnings, a single street barbecue, this event is now considered by many to be one of Australia’s best places to celebrate and experience Ramadan,” Mayor Asfour said.
“The festival is unique to Canterbury-Bankstown and offers visitors a culturally eye-opening experience.”
Food-lovers will experience ttraditional cuisine from places like Burma, Syria, Lebanon, India and Africa cooked by the many local food vendors.
“And there is of course the popular camel burger prepared on the many street barbecues,” Mayor Asfour said.
“Our City will be the envy of many others and, after the two-year absence due to COVID, we are bigger than ever!”
Mayor Asfour said he believed the event will become one the state’s top annual tourist destinations.
Ramadan Nights Lakemba is not to be missed and one to bring family and friends.
Visitors who want to avoid the crowds are encouraged to join us between Monday to Thursday. Accessible public transport is available from Lakemba Station.
