Motorcyclist hospitalised, major traffic delays after Double Bay crash

A motorcyclist has been rushed to hospital after a smash involving his bike and four other cars in Sydney’s eastern suburbs.
Police said the five vehicles ploughed into each other along the busy New South Head Rd near Manning Rd in Double Bay about 430pm on Wednesday. Paramedics worked to stabilise the shirtless motorbike rider, aged in his 50s, while his helmet was still on his head in the middle of the road. He was then taken to St Vincent’s Hospital in a serious but stable condition. Dramatic photos taken at the scene showed the paramedics putting the motorcyclist onto a stretcher in the middle of the usually bustling road.
A red sedan with a badly damaged front was also seen nearby. NSW Police crash investigation unit detectives have been called in to the scene.
There are major traffic delays in the area.
Authorities closed all westbound lanes of New South Head Rd as emergency crews clean up the scene. Parts of Manning Rd were also closed.
