Monopoly releases Wagga version of iconic boardgame

Ever wanted to own a slice of Wagga? Now you can thanks to the release of a local version of Monopoly.
Iconic brand Monopoly has taken on an original Wagga flavour in the latest iteration of the popular boardgame.
Wagga Monopoly was introduced at the Wagga Wagga Showground on Tuesday.
A partnership between Hasbro gaming and Winning Moves, the Wagga version features landmarks including Baylis St, Romano’s Hotel and Murrumbidgee Turf Club.
The game’s release has thrilled residents.
Businesses and town landmarks were chosen through a public Facebook poll in which Hasbro contacted the winners to see if they wanted to be part of the game.
Romano’s Hotel owner Mathew Oates said he could not wait to see his children play the game.
“When I put our business on the Facebook poll, we couldn’t believe the response by the public and then Hasbro contacted us about the game design,” Mr Oates said.
“In 10 years’ time I can see my kids playing it and seeing my pub on it is just cool,” he said.
Mr Oates believes it was the right investment after it cost his business about $1000 to be part of the game.
“Look over a couple of years if the investment comes to plan, well within our marketing budget and definitely will increase notoriety of the hotel and the town”, he said.
Other local businesses were also put on the board with Jacob Guthrie’s Cobrapparel which is a utility square on the board.
“To be honest we are embarrassed to be on it, but we thought it would be a great opportunity to help promote our work to other sporting clubs across Australia,” Mr Guthrie said.
He said being in the game would “do wonders for our business in terms of promotion”.
