Charlise Mutten’s mum pictured for first time since schoolgirl’s tragic death

The mother of schoolgirl Charlise Mutten has been pictured for the first time since her daughter’s horrific death almost a year ago. Kallista Mutten, 39, arrived at Campbelltown Court on Tuesday where she was sentenced to 12-month jail term, served as a community corrections order, over her role in a home invasion where two guns were stolen just a few months before her daughter was allegedly murdered.
The two incidents are not related and Mutten is not accused of any responsibility for her child’s death.
It is the first time Mutten has been seen in public since her fiance Justin Stein, 31, was charged with murdering Charlise, 9, at his Blue Mountains property, in January.
Mutten, who had freshly dyed purple hair and covered her face with sunglasses and a mask, was supported by a friend as she walked into court without speaking to waiting media.
Mutten and Charlise were staying with Stein during the school holidays when police allege he shot and killed the little girl.
Her body was found four days later stuffed inside a barrel and dumped in grassland beside the Colo River.
Stein has been charged with murder but has not yet entered a plea. Police investigating the child’s horrific death allegedly discovered unrelated offences including a break in at a rural property in August 2021 where multiple guns and ammunition were allegedly stolen.
Police allege CCTV shows Mutten and another man breaking into the property on August 22 dressed in dark clothing and wearing gloves.
Court documents revealed Mutten, who pleaded guilty to her role in the break in, used a screwdriver to ‘jimmy’ open a flyscreen door then ransacked the property “in search of valuables”.
Mutten is currently being treated at a drug and alcohol rehabilitation centre but was given day leave to attend court. Mutten was sentenced to a 12-month jail term to be served as a community corrections order.
She must continue a drug and alcohol rehabilitation program as part of her sentence.
Mutten sat silently as her criminal record was tendered to the court.
In 2017, Mutten was convicted of dangerous driving occasioning death after she consumed “two to three points” of the drug ice and crashed a car killing her best friend.
