Australia holds heated first debate between Morrison and Albanese

Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Labor leader Anthony Albanese faced a grilling from undecided voters in Brisbane in the first leadership debate of the 2022 Federal Election campaign.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Labor leader Anthony Albanese went head-to-head in an “unscripted and unpredictable” debate in a bid to secure the votes of undecided Australians.
Sky News Australia and The Courier-Mail hosted the critical first leaders’ debate at 7pm AEST on Wednesday from Brisbane – the first time the Prime Minister and Opposition Leader have come together to face voters’ questions at The People’s Forum.
Moderated by Sky News Chief News Anchor Kieran Gilbert, Mr Morrison and Mr Albanese took questions from 100 undecided voters as chosen by Q&A Market Research.

Australian voters tuned into the highly-anticipated debate, hosted by Sky News Australia and The Courier-Mail, live on Foxtel, Sky News Regional and Flash.

Sky News Australia’s coverage continued at 8.30pm on Paul Murray Live, where Mr Albanese was announced as the audience’s winner of the debate.
Paul Whittaker, Sky News Chief Executive Officer said: “This is the first and most important leaders debate of the election campaign and comes as Australians seek to determine who has the best plan to lead our country against a backdrop of heightened geopolitical factors and as we continue to navigate out of the pandemic”.

“This is a rare opportunity for 100 undecided voters to test both leaders on their policies and vision for the country.”
