The 2024 MG Cyberster electric roadster from China has leaked online, ahead of its formal unveiling expected within the next 12 months.
Photos and details of the Cyberster – the first all-new MG sports car in two decades, and its first with electric power – have leaked through China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
The production car’s styling is derived from the 2021 concept of the same name, with complex skirts and intakes, Porsche-style headlights, and unique LED tail-lights combining thin light strips with supersized arrows (which serve as indicators). The government filing shows there will be a choice of black and red soft-top roof treatments, two alloy wheel designs, silver or red brake calipers, three MG badge designs, and black or silver ‘Cyberster’ badges.
Inside, spy photos (via Cochespias) show the Cyberster will adopt an aircraft or Formula One-style ‘yoke’ steering control, similar to the latest Tesla Model S and Lexus RZ electric cars.
It is unclear if the steering ‘yoke’ will be connected to a traditional steering rack like the Tesla, or a steer-by-wire system used by the Lexus, which allows the steering ratio to change based on speed to eliminate the need for hand-over-hand motions.
It is also not known if the steering ‹yoke› will be standard equipment, or an optional extra in certain markets.
Behind the steering control are three large screen oriented around the driver, while the centre console is similarly bold, with a push-button gear selector and various metallic-finish buttons.
According to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology filing in China, the Cyberster will be available in single-motor, rear-wheel-drive or dual-motor, all-wheel-drive configurations.
The single-motor model is said to develop 231kW, while the dual-motor car will reportedly combine a 250kW rear motor and 150kW front motor for a system output of 400kW – making it MG’s most powerful production car.
A 0-100km/h sprint time is not quoted, however it is estimated to be less than four seconds. The top speed according to the government filing is limited to 193km/h to 200km/h.
