Why writers and bloggers are in the extremist hit list? The radical groups are killing those who voice their thoughts through Facebook, Twitter, or other social media. It is apparent that there is no protection for writers, bloggers, and journalists in Bangladesh. The government is doing little to provide safety for writers who challenge fundamentalist views. It is also clear that if you are a secular activist in Bangladesh, you are doomed to die in the hands of radicals group. Writers and bloggers are being killed one after another and the authorities failed to arrest the killers. Al Qaeda affiliate known as Al Nusra claimed responsibility of killings that are taking place there.

But the Bangladeshi government is pushing back by saying that, “There are in fact, terrorists, but they are home made terrorists, home grown terrorists.” Furthermore, the government warns writers and bloggers by saying that, “Writers should control their writing… our country is a secular state… therefore; writers should be careful not to hurt anyone by writing anything.” The last victim was a law student that brought the number of those who have been killed by the radicals to six writers in the last 14 months in Bangladesh which is 90% Muslim country.
