Fire destroyed an empty house in Canberra’s south

A suspicious fire has destroyed an empty house at Narrabundah in Canberra’s south.

The fire ripped through the house on Matina Street about 7:00pm on Wednesday while it was unoccupied.

Commander Michael Cochrane said fire crews responded to three emergency calls about the blaze.

“Our first pumper was here at 7:07pm to find the house well alight and half of the roof fallen in,” he said.

“There were no occupants of the house according to police.

“This will be a fire which is investigated by police.”

No one was hurt in the blaze.

Firefighters remained at the scene into the night dampening down hot spots.

No other properties were affected.

Fire investigators are expected to return to inspect the site on Thursday morning.
