The 2019 Strawberry Snow Moon graced the Australian skies overnight — accordingly named because it’s when the moon turns a light pink hue.
The celestial phenomenon is called the “snow moon” as there is typically snowfall in parts of the country at this time of year.
The best time to see it depends on your time zone, but Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Hobart and Brisbane will have the best view around 6.30pm, with Adelaide and Darwin around 6pm. Perth can expect to catch a glimpse around 4.30pm, local time.
What makes it even more special is the addition of a bright Jupiter and the four moons of Io, Callisto, Europa and Ganymede being visible next to our moon.
Of course, your chances of seeing it also depend on the weather. The Sydney CBD has been slammed by dark clouds and heavy rainfall all day, so it may be hidden if the skies don’t clear up a bit soon.
