Nigerian minister is new UN deputy chief

Nigeria’s Amina Mohammed is to be Deputy Secretary-General of the UN, the incoming UN Secretary-General António Guterres has announced

The secretary-general-designate also announced the appointments of two other women into top UN positions.

Prior to her appointment, Mrs Mohammed has been Nigeria’s Minister of Environment.

The new position will make her the second-most powerful official at the UN.
