KILLING OF LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS IN AMERICA IS NOT AN ANWSER TO BLACK PEOPLE PROBLEM

WRITTEN BY KALAHAN DENG

I would like to say this to those who believe in violence to solve their problems, killing American police officers is not an answer to the majority of the African-Americans who feel as being neglected by their justice system.  Police officers are not the ones that make the laws in America; they are just law enforcers and not makers as some perceive them. They keep the peace, protect, and serve the American public in general. They are part of the American society and not enemies for their communities.

But the American Justice system is the one to be blamed for constituting two systems under one nation. The American criminal justice system favours white over black people .It is the fact that the American politicians cannot run away from. For example, over 2.2 million Americans now exist in prison cells doing hard labour for pennies an hour. In fact, California’s 33 prisons lease their convicts to over 70 onsite factories. The petty crime of loitering in America has been replaced by that of drug possession, selectively targeting black youth. Young black males are incarcerated at 10 times the rate of their white peers, and four times as likely to be charged with marijuana possession.

Black people in America receive significantly longer prison sentences for the same crimes. And, as seen many times the past decade, unarmed black men are 3.5 times more likely to be shot by police. On Sunday, July 17, 2016, Canadian businessman named Conard Black was speaking on the CNN and said that the American justice system is an evil, rotten system…like a cancer. In fact, this man is one of the wealthiest people in Canada and the U.S.A and was behind bar (in prison) for three years by the same justice system he is now criticising.

Therefore, killing police officers is not the right way of solving what is going on between African-Americans and the American criminal justice system is based on prejudice and partiality. The American law makers know for sure that their system is broken, but they do not want change it because it will protects the black people and other minorities in America. Anger and hate should not defines who we are, rather let’s pick up love and drop the fast lane of hate and killing. Let’s forget the issue of being black or white. Why the issue of race is still relevant in this age?
