DR FIONA MARTIN SUPPORTS VOLUNTEERS OF THE MARONITE CHURCH IN THEIR COMMUNITY WORK

Dr Fiona Martin MP, Member for Reid, announced that $5,000 has been provided in support of volunteer training for the Maronite Eparchy of Australia through the Morrison Government’s Volunteer Grants.

“Volunteers within Reid’s Maronite Church community give up their time and funds to run a number of initiatives, from teaching community languages, leading youth groups or choirs, and undertaking charitable work for the vulnerable members of our community,” Dr Martin said.

“I’m so pleased that they will be benefiting from this federal funding so that their volunteers can continue their good work across their parishes.”

The Maronite Eparchy of Australia will be using the funds for training workshops to ensure that all volunteers can provide the highest quality of care and support for the community.

His Excellency Bishop Antoine-Charbel Tarabay, Maronite Bishop of Australia, affirmed that, “the Maronite Eparchy of Australia is committed to provide a safe environment for all members especially minors and vulnerable persons.”

Churches in Australia have been facing new compliance requirements that relate to dealing with minors and vulnerable persons, workplace health and safety, security, privacy and others.

“Every person involved in any activity of the Eparchy has a responsibility to understand the important and specific role they play as an individual and as part of the team to ensure that the wellbeing and safety of all minors and the vulnerable is a priority in all their actions and decisions,” His Excellency said.

“With the help of the Government Grant facilitated by Dr Martin, we are able to provide these training sessions, with costs of facilitation and volunteer expenses covered.”
